(FFF) desegregation campaign in the Southern United States. Circa 1954. Measures 1 1/2" inches. Rare.
BACKGROUND:
In 1954 the NAACP initiated the
Fight for Freedom
(FFF) campaign with the goal of abolishing segregation by 1963, the centennial of Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. The campaign was intended to be a more activist led approach at racial equality. It was primarily focused on the states of Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee and led by Medgar Evers, the newly appointed NAACP's first field Secretary for Mississippi. Under the campaign, Evers actively organized boycotts, voter registration drives and demonstrations to demand the end of segregation in the South. He was assassinated in Jackson MS in 1963 by white supremacists for his efforts.
