    The Greek letter, LAMBDA, was first chosen as a Gay symbol in 1970 when it
    was adopted by the New York Gay Activist Alliance (founded 1969). In 1974, the symbol
    was adopted by the International Gay Rights Congress. This pin was produced in 1970
    for the New York Gay Activist Alliance when the organization adopted it as its symbol.
    The Lambda signifies Unity under Oppression.
